“I believe that the concept of the “Femme Fatale” started to intensify within me during my college years. I began chatting with a man from the art world. He was almost 20 years older than me. And apparently, age wasn’t the only thing that set us apart… it was also our interest in conversation. I wanted to talk about photography; he called me “My Lady” and “green eyes.

One day, he mentioned the femme fatale. He said that my eyes and gaze were feline, like one of those dangerous women who never favored by mothers-in-law but are adored by men.

My femme fatale has always been a facade. I know this because, despite him calling me “green eyes” (which they aren’t, actually), and me accentuating them with black eyeliner and a fringe, a true femme fatale would have recognized that when someone like that invites you to dinner, they don’t expect the evening to be filled with discussions about art.

Ah… in case anyone is wondering… that night, my femme fatale disguise and I took a taxi home. And alone.”
