Wetin you go do ?

Wetin you go do ?

Year:
Media: 29 Tinted concrete sculptures, rope and sound
Dimensions: 80 x 1000 x 1000 cm (H x W x D)

Otobong Nkanga has created an installation consisting of concrete spheres of various dimensions, tinted and connected to each other with ropes, while a soundtrack fills the space.
For the artist, one of the things she was thinking about is the fact that we are in a world where things we wish to change are so intimately connected that it requires not only a collective effort but also equally intricate thinking to make any forward progress.
Some of the concrete spheres weigh up to 800 kg so this would require a group of people to pull the ropes in order for them to even shift.

Otobong Nkanga emphasizes on this through the presented sculptures of concrete spheres and soundtrack :
they comment and lament on the « weightiness » of the state of things in our modern society, asking the « WETIN YOU GO DO ? » means in English : « WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO ? »
