Early Life of Wim Wenders

My films have been watched by people all over the world, and many have been influenced by them. Some of my films have become classics or cult movies, so they no longer belong to me but rather to a collective memory of viewers of all ages and nationalities. My dream is for my work to belong only to itself in the future and, therefore, to everyone.
This dream began to come true in the fall of 2012 with the establishment of the Wim Wenders Foundation in Düsseldorf. This legally binding framework was created to bring together Wim Wenders’ filmic, photographic, literary, and artistic legacy and make it permanently accessible to a wide audience worldwide.
At the same time, the nonprofit foundation model ensures that the work remains free from any private ownership interests. All proceeds are used to finance the foundation’s purpose: preserving, caring for, researching, and disseminating Wim Wenders’ work, promoting young talents in innovative film storytelling, and conveying film knowledge to young film audiences.
