Beauty Filter Masks. Stories #11

Beauty Filter Masks. Stories #11

Year:
Media: Sculpture in resin and fiberglass, lacquered and with an iron mask-holder
Dimensions: 48 x 50 x 40 cm (H x W x D)

Reproduction of the heads of the painting of ‘The Lovers’ by Magritte, as a couple of masks (the pieces are sectioned from behind in a cut parallel to the surface of the painting). The Magritte’s canvas shows two people posing for a portrait. Their faces are completely covered by cloths which slightly draw their complexion. ‘Beauty Filter Masks’ presents these intricate faces as rigid masks with a glossy coating, similar to one of the most popular selfie filters on Instagram, the #beauty3000 . This filter –with a ultra-bright and iridescent effect– seems to encapsulate what it covers.
