MANIFESTO

Year:
Media: wood, metal, carbon, stepper motors, computer, dimensions variable, software: Peter Chiochetti

A larger-than-life, carved hand moves across the wall as if by magic, leaving behind traces of charcoal. The performance of the infinite line derives from trade data of big reinsurance companies, such as Lloyd’s of London, that are transmitted to the hand from a computer server that takes the shape of the container ship DAIMONIA. Unlike conventional representations of bull and bear spreads, the data are subjected to a new topology. Across time and the events of the market, new overwritings are continually being created, that increasingly thicken and manifest themselves in a dark cloud. The hand provokes associations with Adam Smith’s “invisible hand”, but obviously it is an amputated hand that is guided by higher powers across an occult ouija board, as it were.
