At first, a challenge : create an original piece of work in two days. Original ? Frédéric Bourret decides to come forward. Naked. But not a gratuitous nudity, with a desire to shock the gentleman or to admit a total lack of sense.
No, Frédéric Bourret stands infront of us with no make-up on, like Creation’s first man. Yet it is the artist whom created this piece. We could interpret this is as pure megalomania : the artist thinks he is God…. and it would be easy to do, except for those who know Frédéric Bourret.
The photographer’s approach is more universal because, the artist is Man. He represents all of humanity and because he is the creator, he contains all spirituality. God, the artist and Man are One. And we are all that complete person. Or rather, we were all that complete person. The series of photographs entitled ‘Missing’ questions us on the loss of fundamentals. Have we lost our initial freedom? By placing ourselves infront of the lens performing daily activities, free of all clothing, the photographer points out our consumer habits that take on a different dimension.
It is surprising to see how simple nudity can transform the most banal situations into completely incongrous ones. Incongruity that is revealed by the photograph and reinforced by the ‘mise en abîme’ of the photo in the photo. The final work of art is a tongue-in-cheek research project, because if Frédéric Bourret is the protagonist of the series, he is also the one we are looking for. Is the artist looking for himself or is the world looking for the artist ? Vast debate ! (Artistic collaboration with Amélie Bénady).
