Created in collaboration with the plantation workers’ art league CATPC, the six-part series ‘Plantations and Museums’ was made to explain the background of the Balot NFT project. The series follows CATPC members Matthieu Kasiama and Cedart Tamasala as they travel to the battleground of the Pende rebellion and to the US museum that holds the Congolese sculpture representing Belgian colonial officer Maximilien Balot, created in 1931 by the Pende to control Balot’s wandering spirit. They interview key experts on the Balot sculpture and postcolonial discourse, such as Ariella Aïsha Azoulay (Brown University) and Simon Gikandi (Princeton University).
